Long Branch Duathlon Instructions

To All Entered in the Long Branch Duathlon Sunday.

Welcome all to the 1st Event in our new venue. Sunday May 14th, we will be starting our series at Pier Village   http://www.piervillage.com/

, in the City of Long Branch. We encourage you to try to get to the venue prior to 6:00 am, we know it is early but give yourself enough time to check in, set up and possibly warm up a bit.

We have had a few minor changes in the course but we feel that it will be safer. The bike is actually 9.5 miles. That is all we could get out of it and I think you'll see it will be fine.

Our registration is at the new Running Store at Pier Village, Shore Runner. It's location is right in the middle of the oval.

See:  http://www.shorerunner.com/  Looking at the picture, the store is just to the right of the flag pole. The foreground in the photo will be our transition area.  If you want to get there early and help set up the racks, it is always appreciated!

We plan on starting right at 6:45.

The Run course will start directly in the center on the boardwalk, proceed north to the end of the boardwalk, turn around and head straight back, pass the start line, head south to Pavilion Ave, ( marked with balloons on the railing) then head back to the cent. It's kind of a T course set up. It will be very important to run on the left side at all times ( clockwise run rotation).  see map:

You will be entering the trans area from the south, pick up your bikes, walk them to the end of the trans area ( please no mounting in the trans area) and proceed out, make a left on Laird and out to Route 36, where you will go north.

See bike course.  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=170917

VERY IMPORTANT:  Please ride on the right at all times, and if possible, in the shoulder. Remember, it is practice and you should approach it just like a workout when you are on your own. Safety Counts, Seconds don't!!

We will have 5 police officers on the course, but not at all intersections. Remember, the roads are NOT closed to traffic. There is one or 2 intersections where you will have a traffic light that you may have to stop at. One is Bath Ave and Second ave. Please proceed with caution. There are several turns out on the course. We are supposed to have explorers that morning, but you never know so there will be signs out there at each turn

      Look for these signs

If at all possible, try to familiarize yourself with the course.

You will be entering the Pier Village one Old Ocean Avenue from the South. Dis-mount your bikes and run them in and rack them in the same place. Then proceed north in the same direction as the first run. Finish directly in the center.

Please tell family members to stay out of the transition area. Very important not to be in there, it gets very congested and hard for athletes to see.

We look forward to seeing you all Sunday and remember

BE SAFE!!!
