Want to give a few quick instructions for
the event Sunday.
First of all, the event is rain or shine, sorry,
the forecast doesn't look that good, but I have faith, never know what it
will be like.
Start time is 7:00am, try to get there with
plenty of time to spare.
There is ample parking close to the transition
area, and also, all around Pier Village.
Not sure if the parking area to the left, just as
you pull in will be charging $$, but most will not have to park there if
they are.
Pre-race packet pick up will be available all day
Saturday at Shore Runner, see directions below. Hours for Saturday 10-8
We have 170 pre-entered right now, yes accepting
post entries either Saturday or Sunday am at Shore Runner. (all $50)
Bathrooms are located just north of pier village
in right on the boardwalk (about 100 yards north of the circle).
Also, I believe just south of Pier Village (
one-two blocks) there is another. There is one stall( one male, one
female) in the basement of the parking garage (also another place to park if
you DO NOT have a roof rack, I think it's like $7 or something.
At check in, you will be given your t-shirt or
sweatshirt ( only pre-entries prior to 5/1) If we have left over, they will
be available for $20 and race number.
A timing chip is attached to the underside of
your race number. Please be careful with it. Do not bend it or fold it,
otherwise we will not pick up your times. Very important.
NUMBERS MUST BE WORN ON FRONT AT ALL TIMES DURING
THE EVENT.
We have actually taped them on there, so if for
some reason you see it not as secure as you would like, please let us know
so we can adjust.
Once you have your number, you can rack your bike
in the transition area. Please, only athletes in the transition area.
Placement first come first serve. No one has an
advantage as we enter one side, exit the other.
We have a slight change in course from previous
years. It's very simple.
Please look at the maps to familiarize yourself
with it.
We are expecting about 250 participants. Start
location is at the south end or Pier Village ( just in front of Turning
Point) corner of Franklin Terr. and Ocean Ave.
Runners will proceed south, in the Northbound
lane on the road to a point .94 miles.
There will be a water stop at that end.
Run around the sign right to left, then back
north ON the boardwalk.
You will proceed on the boardwalk basically
through Pier Village, staying inside the cones (west side of boardwalk)
Enter into the transition area in the NORTH End (just in front of McLoones)
This is what is different from prior years.
You will come in from the north
end, get your bike and proceed sount out of Pier Village, same way you went
in the beginning of the run.
This is why it is important to stay on the
boardwalk in the second mile of the first run, out of the way of approaching
bikers.
HELMETS are requires, if you forgot yours, let us
know we always have extras.
THE ROADS ARE NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. Pleas stay
to the right at all time and pass on the left. As you approach another
cyclist, please announce ( On Left) as you pass them.
NO DRAFTING, which means 3 bike lengths behind
another ride, It's mostly a safety issue.
Please be careful, this is all for fun.
You will bike south to North Bath Avenue, turn
right, then right again (staying insdie the cones) on Ocean Blvd. They are
supposed to extend the cones all the way from the beginning of Pier Village
to North Bath.
Head north past Pier Village and then the rest is
the same.
At the end of the loop (only one loop for all in
this event) turning right on North Bath Ave, then left on Ocean Ave back to
Pier Village.
Please dismount as directed prior to entering the
Transition area.
MUST WALK OR RUN BIKE THROUGH TRANS AREA.
Rack the bike, then proceed out of trans area
heading North on the second run (3 miles)
One more small change.
Do not jump right up on to
the boardwalk. Proceed 1/2 way around cirle ( please stay to right as
much as possible)
enter the small walking path to head north.
This should be coned off. follow the path north (
it winds back and forth a bit)then straight as it passes ocean place hotel.
Keep going straight until you see the turn around
(.42 miles), turn left to right around turning point, then back on the
boards, past Pier Village, all the way south to south turn araound left to
right, then back to finish.
I am having new maps made righ now and will email
them later today. or you can look later on at
Hope this helps everyone understand the logistics
of the event.
Of course, as always, family or spectators who
want to volunteer are welcome.
thank you very much, we look forward to the first
of many multi sport events in 2009.
As always, Seconds don't count, Safety Does.
Be safe
and see you all on Sunday Morning
